We
salsa-ed into day five of our trip. We started the day with habichuelas for
breakfast before heading to John F. Kennedy Elementary School for morning teaching.
From crazy, dancing kindergarteners to enthusiastic, rowdy fourth graders, the students
demanded all of our creativity and attention. Once morning classes ended, we
returned to the Outreach site for a debrief and lunch. After a lunch filled
with papaya, rice, and chicken, we learned about the Outreach360 Summer Program
where high school and college students volunteer for multiple weeks at a time. We
then returned to the literacy center for day three of our adventures with La Princesa Rana. My co-teachers and I
continued to work well as a team, though the students were quite rambunctious. We later enjoyed a delicious dinner followed by
a dance class! (This is where the salsa came in.) Sweat poured off our
exhausted bodies as we walked to get ice cream after some lovely partner
dancing. (Jacob was born to dance.) Finally, allow us to close off with a joke:
What do you call an angry bear in Spanish? FuriOSO! (P.S. Hi Mom! Say hi to D,
P, ME, & M for me!! -S.)
Until
tomorrow,
Sarah and Opal
